France In The South Pacific?

You may be thinking right now that I have my world geography horribly wrong or you could be expecting a piece about French Polynesia, however is post has to do with neither of the two.

Yes, there really is another small bit of France in the South Pacific and rather than being part of Polynesia, lies in Melanesia. It is called New Caledonia or Nouvelle-Calédonie and just happens to be another amazing pacific island also is said to be surrounded by the worlds largest enclosed lagoon. Now how’s that for impressive?

Since I’m, let’s say, imaginary island hopping at the moment, I decided it was a good time to share my long time wish to visit this place. For quite a while I have been eager to tour this interesting mix of chic French and laid back Pacific culture and of course, be in tropical weather which is very much my kind of thing. And indeed it is not far away from NZ which would be brilliant if it weren’t for the fact that I am still in Mexico…

Really, who am I to complain? But when I see pictures of a tropical island with a mix of pacific culture – or any culture which is not my own to be exact – it is something that I just cannot resist daydreaming about. After looking at these photos can you really blame me?
